Tip #1:  COLOR YOUR CUPCAKE BATTER

You will want to do this with a small bit of gel paste food color. I'm used Chef Master liquid gel in color Sky Blue to color my batter. The flavor that I have here is white cake, which is fairly white in color. When coloring your batter, you definitely want to be mindful of the base color. If I had used yellow cake batter, my Sky Blue would come out more aqua green, instead. And here I'm mixing the coloring into the batter completely.

Tip #2: GET CREATIVE WITH YOUR CUPCAKE LINERS (not to be confused with cupcake wrappers)

Cupcake liners are available in a variety of colors and patterns. Cupcake liners are placed into your cupcake pan and are later filled with batter. To prevent your cupcakes from baking up and over the sides, I recommend filling your cupcake liners no more than half full. Now that my white and blue batter have been poured in, it's time for them to bake. Remember to follow the directions in your recipe for how long your cupcake should bake. Once the cupcakes are baked, you can really see the finished color.

Tip #3: USE WRAPPERS IS ANOTHER WAY TO ACCESSORIZE YOUR CUPCAKES.

Cupcake wrappers are assembled simply by placing the tab into the slot. Next, the cupcake is dropped into the wrapper. It should fit snuggly.

Cupcakes are baked in liners while cupcake wrappers can be used as to accessorize your cupcakes.

Tip #4: FILL YOUR CUPCAKES.

Filling a cupcake can be done in a couple of different ways. The first way to fill a cupcake is by using a Tip Number 230 by Wilton, also known as a Bismarck tip. It's as simple as pushing the tip straight into the cupcake about halfway squeezing with even pressure and continuing to squeeze while slowly removing the tip. Filling a cupcake using the Bismarck tip works best if you're filling your cupcake with icing or pudding. Now here you can see the filling when the cupcake is cut in half.

Next, I'll show you how to core a cupcake with a large piping tip to fill with a chunkier filling. Using a Wilton 1A Tip, core the cupcake by taking the tip and pressing it down into the center, also, while turning, to create an opening. Next, fill the center with sprinkles to create a pinata style cupcake. Now this is best done with a spoon. The center of your cupcake can be filled with candy, fruit or sprinkles. Filling your cupcake in this way makes for a really fun surprise!

Tip #5: PIPE SWIRLS ATOP YOUR CUPCAKES LIKE A PRO

If you're making cupcakes but you don't want a ton of icing, consider a simple 1M rosette. If you want more height and more icing, you may want to pipe a 1M swirl, instead. There's a distinct difference between the look of these cupcakes. Always ice your cupcakes with intention!

Tip #6: ACCESSORIZE WITH CUPCAKE TOPPERS

Like cupcake liners, cupcake toppers are available in a variety of colors, styles and themes. They are easy to apply to give a little extra interest, and they are just as easy to remove. Want to try making your own cupcake toppers with washi tape, toothpick and alphabet sticker? I’ll show you how in the video below!
